Mula Sa Buwan – the original Filipino musical written by director Pat Valera (concept, book, and lyrics) and William Manzano (lyrics and music) – returns this November 9 to 25, 2018 for a limited sixteen-show run.
The musical finds its new home at the brand new 800-seater Hyundai Hall, Arete in Ateneo de Manila University, two years after its celebrated first run in 2016.
Mula Sa Buwan puts a fresh, Filipino spin to the beloved tale of Cyrano de Bergerac–where long-nosed poet Cyrano, deeply in love with his childhood friend Roxane, lends his words to Christian, the handsome new suitor of his beloved.
With kundiman and pop rock–inspired music, we bear witness to Cyrano pining for Roxane, as she falls for Christian’s charms (and essentially, Cyrano’s words).
Along with the trio’s love story, we find ourselves right in the middle of the life of their merry group of friends and cadets–singing and swingin’ about their teenage exploits, dancing to the beat of their drums and sharing with us pieces of their hopes and dreams.
But what sets Mula sa Buwan apart from other love story-musicals is this: beyond the retelling of the quintessential love triangle, the setting lends a deeper take to the tale, set in 1940’s Manila right on the cusp of war.
Cyrano, Christian, Roxane, and their merry troupe of cadets and friends find themselves not only fighting for their love– but they must also fight for their lives.
Through the perils and pitfalls of war, our cast of characters tries to find every rhyme and reason to carry on in the midst of a country ruined by war.
Nicco Manalo and Boo Gabunada once again don the iconic nose and nuance of poet-cadet Cyrano, while Edward Beñosa returns as the handsome yet bumbling Christian. Joining the lead cast is Myke Salomon who alternates with Beñosa as Christian; theater actress Gab Pangilinan, and opera singer Cris Go, meanwhile, alternate as the wily, feisty, and beloved Roxane.
Come fly with Cyrano, Christian, Roxane to the moon and back, in this season’s most heartbreaking original Filipino musical! Mula Sa Buwan opens on November 9 at 7:30 PM, kick-starting its sixteen-show run until November 25.
