Human trafficking is the second biggest crime in the world. According to this report, 784,000 have been victimized by this modern-day slavery in the Philippines.
To raise awareness and spark discussion on this social issue, BGC’s The Refined will be hosting One for Freedom: A Social Campaign to End Modern Day Slavery on September 27 at 6PM.
Attendees will partake in talks about human trafficking, listen to motivational speeches, and be treated to acoustic singing sessions while networking over great food and drinks.
This social event aims to fulfill three goals:
Challenge the perception
The victims are usually women due to lack of education and low self-esteem and the traffickers are usually men. The event will be an avenue for discussion on how this perception can be changed. Women thought leaders will share their thoughts while men will take the pledge to stand against human trafficking.
Support the bigger picture
Collective Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts need to be strengthened as startups, SME’s, and community organizations in the Philippines continue to grow. This will help ensure that businesses of all levels practice good values as part of their company culture.
Disrupt Corporate Social Responsibility
Social awareness over beer and food at a gentlemen’s grooming salon’s elegant networking space? Yes! Think charity event + happy hour + James Bond 007 drinking atmosphere.
This charity event’s beneficiary is Voice of the Free, an anti-human trafficking organization in Quezon City that houses over 50 rescued girls.
During the event, The Refined will be offering a special promo on their services the proceeds of which will go directly to the Voice of the Free. Proceeds from all cocktails ordered during the night will also be donated to the organization.
One for Freedom: A Social Campaign to End Modern Day Slavery is presented by The Refined, Voice of the Free, Empowered, She Talks Asia, Kumu, and Human Resources 101%.
About Voice of the Free
Since 1991, Cecilia Flores Oebanda has been saving lives and rebuilding them. She founded, and continues to spearhead, the Visayan Forum (now called Voice of the Free), a Philippine non-government organization known for its innovative and sustainable solutions that address modern-day slavery, human trafficking, and domestic servitude of Filipinos all over the world.
Since its founding, Voice of the Free has engaged over 400 partners from local and national government agencies to business and private sectors. Among these partners is Katie Ford, former CEO of New York-based modeling agency Ford Models and founder of Freedom for All – an organization that globally combats sex trafficking, forced labor, child labor, and debt bondage.
The stories of the victims are nothing but heartbreaking, brutal, and devastating. But to have people rooting and working for their redemption transform these stories into a narrative of hope, of strength, of triumphs, and of undaunted spirits.
